A clear build can be scoped directly. When the cause is uncertain, an investigation may be the useful first job. Neither is a compulsory route to the other.
An existing setting, a clearer page or a simpler process may be enough. A more substantial job needs a scope, acceptance checks and maintenance arrangements that justify the commitment.

Before paid work, we agree the question or change, price, required access, acceptance checks and what is outside scope. Work beyond that needs a separate decision.
Access is not permission to change records or send messages. Important actions need explicit authority.
Keep the answer connected to its basis.
Show what supports the result, what remains uncertain and what needs a person’s decision. AI may support the work; it does not take responsibility for those decisions.
Know what comes after the work.
Agree what is handed over, what needs maintenance and who will be responsible. Ongoing work needs a recurring purpose of its own.
Scheduled checks, supervised sessions and additional development have different operating requirements. One 90-day recheck is not continuous monitoring.
